I’ve done political cartoons on and off for the last twenty years in an attempt to pull realities of people into what happens within politics or the USA. I started on Substack, but realized that I was still doing the same thing over again in a different format.
Currently I’m working on a comic book called, “Ayahuasca, Wisconsin”. In ways it carries through with my political ideas and sense of humanity. The idea started at the coffee house I go to daily basis. We were talking about Ayahuasca one day and I thought that it sounded like a town in Wisconsin. It developed from there through my growing up in Wisconsin and stories told through my father and other relatives.
As a boy I had heard all kinds of strange things - nothing horrifying, but sometimes hysterical. My father was a great storyteller and I feel a lot of his stories could lend to a comic book series. After leaving the coffee house I started to think about the possibility of a comic book series based somewhat on these stories by creating a fictional town in Wisconsin. It didn’t take long to script out fifteen stories.
As of now I have devoted my time to bringing “Ayahuasca, Wisconsin” into a comic book form. I thought about turning my Substack site into a diary or the day by day development of my comic book series. It’s a concept I’ve never seen before and thought it would be interesting to show how a comic book is developed from scripting to printing.
This will be a place to breakdown how the story or comic book develops. A good place to start would be with a logo - though I haven’t thought of a subtitle. All states have a claim like Wisconsin is “Forward” or Minnesota is “Land of 10,000 Lakes”.
